A pair of river otters in the water curiously looking at the camera

River otters in Grand Teton National Park

While searching for moose, I stumbled upon a family of otters feeding and playing around in the Snake River. They were very curious animals, periodically popping their heads up to see what I was doing.

While patiently searching the banks of the Snake River for moose, I was delightfully interrupted by a family of river otters. These animals are notoriously playful, and this pair certainly lived up to the reputation, pausing their feeding and games to pop up their heads and investigate me. I sat still along the bank for a quiet half-hour, grateful to be the only human around, and felt a quiet sense of acceptance as they continued their antics in the morning light.
