Roseate spoonbill silhouette in Florida

While other photographers were complaining about the fog that morning, I took advantage by capturing a silhouette of one of my favorite Florida birds.

The Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja) is unmistakable even in silhouette, thanks to its distinctive spatulate bill and long, elegant neck. While these birds are famous for their brilliant pink plumage, a backlit composition like this shifts the focus to their structural beauty and the quiet atmosphere of the Florida wetlands at dawn. Achieving a clean silhouette in foggy conditions requires precise exposure compensation to ensure the subject remains a true black while the background retains its ethereal, golden glow.
