Snowy egret in Florida

I love how this beautiful snowy egret stood out against the blues of the sky and the water, along with the brown of the sand.

The Snowy Egret (Egretta thula) is one of the most elegant hunters of the Florida coast, often recognized by its striking white plumage, slender black bill, and its most famous feature: bright yellow "golden slippers"—the vibrant yellow feet that help it stand out in shallow water. Unlike the larger Great Egret, Snowy Egrets are highly active foragers, often seen using their feet to stir up the sandy bottom of tide pools to flush out small fish and crustaceans. This individual was captured during a moment of calm, allowing the intricate textures of its wispy breeding plumes—which were once highly prized in the fashion industry—to be documented in crisp detail.
