The Midwest: A Season of Spectacles
The Midwest has always been home for me, and its quiet beauty is best revealed through the lens. While it may lack the towering peaks of the West, the Heartland serves as a vital corridor for some of North America’s most spectacular wildlife movements.
Positioned along the Mississippi Flyway, our region becomes a bustling highway twice a year for millions of migrating birds. From the warblers that dapple the forest canopy in vibrant color during the spring to the resilient raptors and waterfowl that claim the frozen riverbanks in winter, the Midwest offers a masterclass in endurance and adaptation.
My photography in the Midwest focuses on these fleeting moments—the "Gray Ghost" hunting over a golden prairie, or a Tree Swallow navigating a sudden March snowstorm. These images represent more than just local wildlife; they capture the rhythmic heartbeat of a landscape that is constantly in motion. Whether it's the oak-hickory forests of Illinois or the icy dams of the Mississippi River, this collection celebrates the hidden drama and resilient spirit of the American interior.
